Description

According to the Manual del Estado Español (Handbook of the Spanish State, Spanish text only) by Editorial Lama:

  • historical flag [meaning there is no known adoption date], "La cruz roja de San Jorge sobre fondo blanco" i.e. a red Saint George cross on white.
  • coat-of-arms: since 1869, approved by the Real Academia de la Historia [Royal Academy of History] in 1921, modified on 24th July 1939, approved by the Real Academia on 1st March 1940: "Escudo cuartelado: Primer cuartel: De oro, con árbol de Sobrarbe, que es encina en sus colores naturales rematada en una cruz griega de gules. Segundo cuartel: Cruz de plata agujada por abajo sobre fondo de azur (originalmente cárdeno). Tercer cuartel: De plata, cruz de San Jorge de gules, con cuatro cabezas de moros. Cuarto cuartel: Cuatro barras o bastones de gules sobre campo de oro. En escusón: De forma oval, sobre azur, una columna (representativa del Pilar de Zaragoza) en plata, con la cruz de Santiago en gules.".
