This flag follows the new standard established in October 1843, whereby the basic dseign of military colours is modified with the adoption of the national colours. The cloth is divided in three stripes, horizontally red-yellow-red, and a simplified version of the royal arms placed in the center. This flag design had been used by warships since 1785, and in naval forts and castles since 1793. Source: Antonio Manzano Lahoz, Las Banderas Históricas del Ejército Español.
