Standard of the Prince until c.1897

Fürstenstandarte

[Standard of the Prince until c.1897 (Waldeck-Pyrmont, Germany)] 4:5
by Santiago Dotor
Flag presumably adopted after 1862, abandoned before 1897

Siebmacher 1878 gives a yellow princely standard 2:3 with a black eight-pointed star in the center (for Waldeck) and a white canton on the fly with a red cross moline (for Pyrmont).

Ströhl 1897 says this flag appears to be 'out of use' and gives no standard.

Theo van der Zalm, 22 June 2001

Siebmacher 1878 shows the flag as having almost exactly a 4:5 ratio, with the star being half as high as the flag and the fly canton having almost exactly 4/10 the height of the flag. Also Ströhl 1897 says that the canton of this (by then out of use) standard was square.

Santiago Dotor, 1 August 2002

This standard does not appear in Steenbergen 1862. Le Gras 1852 would be a good source to check.

The same as the Landesflagge.

The coat of arms, with mantle (...) was placed on the red stripe of the princely standard from c.1890; previously it was the same as the Landesflagge.

Mario Fabretto, 28 August 1998

Neubecker 1933 shows the Landesflagge with the middle version of the arms (shield without supporters or crests, on princely manteaux) centred on the red stripe.
