Description of the flag

Bornem is located in the arrondissement of Mechelen.

The flag is made of three blue-white-blue vertical stripes (3:5:3) with a blue tower in the white stripe.
The tower might belong to the castle of the family Marnix van Sint Aldegonde, one of whom (Philip) is rumoured to have composed the Dutch national anthem at the end of the 16th century.

The flag was approved by Municipal decree 21 April 1981 and confirmed by Ministerial decision 30 November 1981.
